The River Rat Pack Tour

The River Rat Pack Artists

So, which brave (crazy) artists have been enlisted for the River Rat Pack Tour? We can assure you that they are all fine, upstanding citizens with well honed boat skills. They can sing a mean tune and bash instruments together too. Allow us to introduce you to the River Rat Pack:

This group of talented sods released their self titled debut album in late 2007, and have spent the last two years touring the world. They have played over 300 shows In America, Europe and the UK and have toured with The Maccabees, The Wombats, Jack Penate, Pete and The Pirates, The Rumble Strips, The Holloways and The Pigeon Detectives.

Radio 1’s Zane Lowe is obviously a fan, and they've also had airplay on BBC6 Music and XFM.
SixNationState are renowned for their amazing live shows and Indie / Ska & Reggae tinged music, They will mix their full live band set with acoustic performances on the Barge Tour.

Mr Jenkins started off in a three piece Rock and Roll band in South London called The Basement Band. Since then his travels have taken him far and wide - from bizzare and isolated mountain festivals in the Alps to nights spent busking with Honduran street musicians. He has played extensively in New York- from packed out theatres and clubs to street corners and parks. He has also toured Central America and Italy where he and his band toured major venues and slept on the streets each night. He has also played extensively in New York- from packed out theatres and clubs to street corners and parks.

Last year he took a group of musicians around the UK playing off the cuff and unannounced gigs across the country. It seems strange gigs are his specialty. Later this year Nat will support The Kooks on their September US tour.

naked_and_the_boys1.gifNaked and the Boys
Naked and the Boys have just released thir first single 'If You Find Love' on Young and Lost Club Records. They are due to release their second single over the coming months.

Naked and the Boys recently returned from the first ever Young and Lost Club tour, during which they supported Noah and the Whale. The tour took them from Brighton to Glasgow.
They have had airplay on BBC Radio London, XFM Playlist and by Zane Lowe on Radio 1.

josh_weller1.gifJosh Weller
Every barge tour needs a character-packed performer. Introducing... Josh Weller; a man who looks like the lead in a Tim Burton movie version of Moulin Rouge. When he began discovering records living in Borneo aged 6, it was an esoteric collection of Cole Porter, Mel Torme, Tom Waits, Chet Baker, Irving Berlin and Elvis Costello. Weller says his love of Woody Allen and Richard Pryor is what spawned his love of writing words. His taut and glaringly observational lyrics atop his quirky, waltzy-Pop extend beyond his twenty-two years and will have you reaching for those Randy Newman records.

Josh recently toured with the Maccabees and has played with the likes of Lightspeed Champion, Cibelle, Derek Meins, the Mules and more.

jayjaypistolet1.gifJay Jay Pistolet
Jay Jay released his debut single 'We Are Free' on Chess Club in November and soon found himself booked for shows everywhere from Paris to Los Angeles, He has toured with Laura Marling, Noah and the Whale, Katie Melua, Johnny Flynn, The Holloways and Kid Harpoon. He's had national press in everything from The Red Top newspapers to High-End fashion magazines and he found friends at 6music and Xfm who invited him in for radio sessions.

This summer Jay Jay Pistolet will hit the festival circuit hard. Expect to hear something simple, beautiful and timeless. It's not the next fad or craze, it's not part of a scene or movement and it is not genre-specific. He's not the next Jack Penate (glad we cleared that up) and he's not 'Nu-Folk'. He is a young man with stories to tell, melodies to sing and a voice to be heard.

thegoldensilvers1.gifGolden Silvers
Abandoning guitars in favour of drums, bass, Rhodes and Rubber Soul three-part harmonies, North London, three piece Golden Silvers stand out from the crowd with perfect Pop sensibilities. The band emerged onto the live scene during the summer of 2007 and recently won the Glastonbury unsigned competition. They have also been confirmed for Radio 1’s Big Weekend where they'll show Madonna a thing or two.

The band launched the popular monthly BRONZE CLUB at the Macbeth in September and the word has spread. Golden Silvers were the main support on The Mystery Jets’ current album tour. They release debut single 'Arrows of Eros' on Young & Lost Club this July. Busy lads then...

beansontoast1.gifBeans On Toast
If you haven't seen beans On Toast live in action, you're missing out. He sings about sex, drugs and politics, plays lots of festivals and has graced many-a stage. Beans On Toast has supported the likes of Kate Nash and Frank Turner.

Be warned, he swears a lot and is known to graffiti his name on toilet walls. Just the way we like it really. He believes he was asked to join the barge tour because he's a strong swimmer and once upon a time was a lifeguard. It's good to know the talent on board is in good hands.

DerekMeins1.gifDerek Meins
If you believe the press release, Indie has found its new Poet Laureate in the shape of the truly one-off, Derek Meins.

Part musician, and part performance poet, Derek is an eccentricity that has been badly missing from the UK¹s tattered and torn musical map for years. As vocalist in Berwick-Upon-Tweed¹s Rough Trade signings Eastern Lane, Derek wrote and sang all the tracks across two critically acclaimed LPs. A beloved cult act, the band were underpinned by Derek¹s delusional howl. Hear it for yourself - barge style.
